William (Bill) VanKeuren, age 73, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 6, 2021 in Nashville, while listening to his daughter Caitlin play one of his favorite hymns, “Blessed Assurance,” on the violin. Born in Atlantic City, NJ, Bill taught tennis and music for most of his life.
Bill is survived by his wife, Linda, three grown children, son Everett VanKeuren, who lives in Maine; and two daughters, Caitlin VanKeuren and Hailey Hampton (Berry), who live in Cool Springs, TN; and his brother, Fred VanKeuren of Sparta, NJ.
Bill was the pianist/organist at St. Patrick's Anglican Church in Murfreesboro and played up until two weeks before his death. He loved to share his talent as a musician, playing the piano at Green Hills Apartments on Saturday afternoons for anyone who wanted to listen to his hymn practice, taking requests and accompanying residents who wanted to sing. He often credited the Lord for his musical gifts and talents and served faithfully in several churches as a pianist for most of his adult life.
Bill was a member of the Metro Senior Golf Association and enjoyed playing golf at the local Nashville courses. He often remarked that he enjoyed the friendships he made while on the golf course as much as the game.
Bill was a kind, patient, and loving father and husband. With a sense of humor and a Christian wisdom, he was a patient teacher.
The family appreciates the doctors and staff at TN Oncology, especially Dr. Lester Porter, who helped him in his fight against cancer. Bill received excellent care from the physicians, nurses, and employees at St. Thomas West. Bill never complained during his treatment and whenever asked how he felt, he answered, “I feel fine.”
A mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Anglican Church, 7103 Baker Rd., Murfreesboro, TN 37129 on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 1 p.m. (CDT), followed by a time to share memories.
Donations can be made to Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson St., Nashville, TN 37203.
