Wendy Ruth Locke

Wendy Ruth Locke Brentwood TN Wendy Locke, age 71, passed away peacefully in Franklin, TN, on March 1, 2017. Wendy was a long time resident of Brentwood, Tennessee but she wouldn't hesitate to tell you where she was really from with Boston brogue. A graduate of Furman University in Greenville, SC, the University of Georgia, in Athens, GA, and Vanderbilt University, she earned a BS, an MA and a PhD respectively. She spent her entire career in the field of special education. She taught for 30+ years in the Nashville Metro School System. Wendy was often the teacher/classroom of last resort for students at Hillsboro High where she spent the last 14 years of her teaching career. She mentored students from Vanderbilt and other local colleges. In addition, she also tutored children in her home. The last few years of her life were spent enjoying life as a retiree traveling when she was able, watching her favorite TV shows and visiting with friends. Some of her loves included entertaining family and friends, all dogs, and a good gin and tonic. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Ruth Locke. She is survived by her brother Richard (Kathy) sister Judy nephews Matthew and Richie niece Caroline (Alex) great nieces and nephews dedicated caregiver Steve and faithful dachshund Otto. The family wishes to thank Wendy's nationwide network of family and friends for their visits, support, and assistance during Wendy's illness. The family also wishes to thank the staff of NHC Cool Springs for their overwhelming love, support, and assistance throughout Wendy's illnesses. A private celebration of Wendy's life will be held in Tryon, NC, as per Wendy's wishes in the near future.
