Obituary for Victor Lowell Clay 8/11/1937-7/18/2023
Vic was born the only surviving son of among 5 siblings to Gene and Hazel Clay, in Lamar, Colorado.
During his formative years he played music with his father Gene, and the Ark Valley Wranglers at local
dances and community event. After graduating from Lamar High School in 1955, Vic entered the US
Army and served in Japan from 1955-1957, as a signal corps specialist.
Upon returning, Vic settled in Ohio and began his career as a professional musician and later, producer.
He worked for and with America’s first Television Pastor, Rev. Rex Humbard. Vic traveled with Rev.
Humbard nationally and internationally, and appeared on the weekly broadcasts from the Cathedral of
Tomorrow. Vic also managed the studio production side of the ministry.
After nearly 20 years, Vic and his family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he was one of the owners of
Artists Recording. During these years he was considered the premier producer for Gospel music artists
and productions.
Vic located to Nashville Tennessee 1985, producing and playing on hundreds of sessions, including work
for both gospel and country artists and productions. He was a lifetime member and signatory in the
American Federation of Musicians (Afm-257).
Following the death of his first wife, Linda in 1990, Vic married Toni Holcomb in 1993. Together they
formed the Potter’s Clay Music Group/Vic Clay Productions, along with two music publishing companies.
Vic’s legacy and extensive body of work are a testimony of His faith toward God and his service to God’s
people.
Vic was preceded in death by his parents, Gene Clay and Hazel (Gittings), an infant brother, and sisters
Marietta (Barnholt), and Judith (Stewart).
He is survived in life by wife, Toni Jolene Clay, son Victor L. Clay Jr, (Nicole), Daughter Vicky McDaniels
(Don), and sister Lea Stutler. (Larry), grandchildren Ashley, Shaunessy, and Seth David, numerous nieces
and nephews, along with one great grandchild and many great nieces and nephews, and paternal aunt,
Betty Clay, of Murphy N.C.
Vic will be laid to rest in the National Military Cemetery in Nashville Tn.
