It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Robert Bruce Hinton, affectionately known as Bob, Big Daddy, Grampy Bob, BobFather, Bobby, RB and his most proud, Dad. Bob passed at the age of 76 in his home in Brentwood, Tennessee surrounded by his wife and children. He was a proud man of German heritage, embodied a life filled with love, resilience, and a profound connection to his roots and any body of water that could float a boat.
Born in 1947 in Neider Wollstadt, Germany, Bob was adopted at the age of five and brought home to Tennessee by his parents, Bettie and Bruce Hinton, who proceeded him in death. He served in the US Navy for four years during the Vietnam conflict. Later in life, after discovering and reconnecting with his German siblings and family, Bob embraced his German ancestry with immense pride, sharing the vibrant culture and traditions with his loved ones. He found joy in narrating tales of his heritage, enriching our family gatherings with stories passed down through generations.
His life's journey deeply affected all who knew him. He was a devoted and beloved husband of 42 years to Jane (Conley) Hinton, his children Eric Downey, Charline Hinton, Elizabeth (Hinton) Byrd and Seth Byrd, grandchildren Mac Downey, Sarah Kate Downey, Sam Downey, Henry Byrd and Margaret Byrd, and a community of friends and family that adored him.
A private memorial service will be held in Nashville to celebrate his extraordinary life. The family suggests that donations be made to Lung Cancer Foundation of America in lieu of flowers, honoring a cause that gave us 13 additional years to our time with Bob after he fought lung cancer in 2011.
As we bid farewell to Bob, we hold onto the love and stories he shared with us. His spirit, forever intertwined with his love, will continue to guide and inspire us. Rest in peace without pain dear father – your legacy will flow through our lives like the gentle waters you so cherished.
