Raymond Nelson Eason of Spring Hill, TN passed away on December 19, 2022 at the age of 84.
Nelson Eason was born in Birmingham, Alabama and grew up in the area, graduating from Phillips High School in 1956. He met and married Peggy Yates in 1960 and welcomed their children, Mark and Tracey, in the following years. After beginning a career with Sears Roebuck in the 60s, Nelson was offered a position at their headquarters in Chicago in 1972. What followed was a 24-year adventure in the Windy City, living first in Bolingbrook and then in Naperville before retiring from full-time work and returning to Alabama in 1996. During their time in the Chicagoland area they attended the Downers Grove church of Christ. Worshiping and serving there led to friendships that lasted a lifetime.
After retiring from Sears, Nelson and Peggy settled in Tuscaloosa, where both Mark and Tracey lived. During these early retirement years, they set an inspiring example of obedience to the command “honor your father and mother” as they provided loving care to their aging parents and other family members. Their lives were richly blessed by the fellowship of brothers and sisters in the Northwood Church of Christ during their 18 years in Tuscaloosa.
Following Mark’s passing in 2012, Nelson and Peggy relocated to middle Tennessee in 2014, where Tracey and her family live. Worshiping with the Rolling Hills church of Christ brought new friends and the blessing of being reunited with treasured friends from their years in Illinois.
Nelson was always ready to provide support and wise counsel to family members and friends in need and he loved to lighten every setting with his quick wit - getting a smile or laugh from others lifted his spirits as well as those around him. The smile he loved most was Peggy’s. He set a high standard for marriage, living out the instruction “Husbands, love your wives just as Christ loved the church” in a truly beautiful way. December 16, three days before Nelson’s passing, was their 62nd wedding anniversary.
Nelson is survived by his wife, Peggy, daughter and son-in-law, Tracey & Joel Hester, two grandsons, Dylan and David, daughter-in-law, Janice Eason, sister, Linda Sartain, and other extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Cleatus Eason and Mildred Kirkpatrick Eason, son, Mark Nelson Eason, and sister, Norma Jean Eason.
