Nancy Stewart Burge, age 78, passed peacefully from this earthly life surrounded by her family at her home in Franklin, TN, on August 7, 2023, after a heroic 10 month battle with brain cancer. She is now at peace with her Heavenly Father. Nancy was born on August 27, 1944, a native of Picayune, MS, the eldest daughter to the late James Urban Stewart and Margaret Harrell Stewart. Nancy was one of three siblings. She had one sister, Cheryl Stewart Skantz (Conrad Skantz) who preceded her in death; and she has one brother, James Nolen Stewart (Carolyn Stewart).
Left behind to carry on her beautiful memory and legacy are her devoted husband of 35 years, Daniel Burge, who she loved beyond measure; her four children Gina Wells Bawcom (Mark Bawcom), Lynda Wells Bolan (William "Bill" Bolan), Cody L. Wells (Judy Wells), and Candice Wells Burge, also ten grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Nancy was a retired RN who was compassionate and caring to her patients; she especially loved taking care of her elderly patients; but her most important role in life was that of a loving and supportive wife; mother to her four children, and Nanny to her ten grandchildren; and her nine great-grandchildren. Nancy enjoyed cooking, traveling, camping, sewing, and gardening. Her home was always a place of welcome rest and relaxation; she was a great listener; always smiling; and always telling us how proud she was of us. She was a true caregiver in every sense of the word. Nancy especially loved to cook and feed people; it brought her so much joy.
Nancy leaves a void in this world and in our lives that no one else can ever fill; but her memory will live on forever through us. She has changed every person she ever came into contact with; her ability to give love, compassion, empathy, and kindness to even a stranger was her true gift. Even in her fight against cancer she showed us all how to be graceful, strong, brave, kind, positive; and to never give up.
The angels are now celebrating as she joins them and those who have gone before her that she so loved...what a great reunion...so until we meet again...we love you.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, August 12, 2023, 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., at 130 Marlin Road, White House, TN 37188.
