Mike Allen Irwin passed away on May 18, 2022, at age 58 in Nashville, Tennessee after a short battle with a terminal illness. He was born on March 6, 1964, in Dallas, Texas. While Mike lived many places in the United States and abroad in his early life, he had been a resident of Nashville for over 25 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Lee Irwin. Mike is survived by his wife, Ann Lynn Walker, his daughter, Rachel Leeann Irwin, his mother, Susan Lester, brothers, John David (Holly) Irwin, Eric Holden and Ryan Holden, nephew, David (Holly) Hasty, who was like a son to him, his stepfather Ric (Pam) Holden and a niece and seven nephews. He also leaves his treasured pets Duke, Sophie, Savannah, and Polly.
Mike went into the Army after high school and was stationed in Germany. He became fluent in German and maintained that throughout his life. After the Army, he attended the University of Texas (Hook ‘Em Horns!) and was a die-hard Longhorns fan. He then went on to Thunderbird – The American Graduate School of International Management for his graduate degree. He played rugby at Thunderbird where he met many lifelong friends. Mike loved Tae Kwon Do, a passion he shared with his father and his daughter. He was also a gun enthusiast spending time at the shooting range whenever possible. Mike had an irreverent sense of humor that he delighted in sharing with his daughter and many friends. He never met a stranger and was warm and welcoming to all. Mike was loved deeply and will be sorely missed. His death leaves a hole in many lives and hearts.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, May 31 st at West Harpeth Funeral Home, 6962 Charlotte Pike, Nashville TN 37209 at 4 p.m. with visitation immediately prior from 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mike’s honor to Alive Hospice Nashville or the Gary Sinise Foundation.
