Marlowe Roy Nortrom

November 21, 1932 - January 22, 2024

Marlowe Roy Nortrom, a devoted husband and father, passed away at the age of 91 on January 22, 2024, in Franklin, TN. Born on November 21, 1932, to Helen and Roy Nortrom in Minneapolis, MN. After brother Douglas was born, they relocated to Milwaukee. He graduated from Boys Tech followed by an electrician apprenticeship with International Harvester. Following an honorable discharged from the US Armed Services, he returned to Milwaukee to attend university and graduated from UWM with a BA in English. He worked for Cutler Hammer and Ameritech before culminating his career at AT&T.

Marlowe was a lifelong learner. After his first retirement, he earned his master’s degree at the impressive age of 72. Then he taught computer science as a respected instructor at MATC. Marlowe was also an ardent lover of the arts. He spent his retirement attending the symphony, volunteering for theaters, and singing in the Bach Chamber Choir, the Milwaukee Choristers, and finally the Plymouth Chorale. He was a member of the Milwaukee First Unitarian Universalist Society, where he was also a member of the chancel choir.

Marlowe was predeceased by his loyal brother, Douglas Victor Nortrom. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Janet Nortrom (nee Couture), daughters, Gina Bashour (James) and Kristin Nortrom, grandchildren Kyle, Michaela, and Simon Bashour, sister-in-law, Patricia Nortrom (née Meier) and extended family members. We will all greatly miss his sharp wit and loving presence.

Services will be held at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Nashville on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 1:00 PM CST. The services will be live streamed and you can connect at this URL. https://zoom.us/j/99117597416 In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wisconsin Literacy Inc. or Doctors Without Borders, USA.
