Margaret Scales Wallace, a native Nashvillian, died July 13, 2018, at home with family and her little dog, Lacy, beside her. She was born May 27, 1927, to Ellsworth Poindexter Scales and Margaret Vaile Scales. Her brothers, Ellsworth P. Scales Jr. and John V. Scales, predeceased her as did her husband, Walter Nunnelly Wallace, and son David Campbell Wallace.
She attended Woodmont and Parmer schools, Ward-Belmont High School and College, and Peabody College for Teachers.
A mainstay of St. George's Episcopal Church, she taught kindergarten for 38 years, led Sunday School classes and assisted with marriage ceremonies. She also served as a member of the Altar Guild and Daughters of the King.
Mrs. Wallace, who loved to dance as well as play tennis and bridge, belonged to several organizations. They included Brookmeade Garden Club, Centennial Club, Cheekwood, the James Robertson Chapter of the DAR, and Colonial Dames of America in Tennessee.
Survivors include son, Walter Nunnelly (and Pam) Wallace, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Susie Wallace; grandchildren, Alaine Wallace Calvani, Jason Nunnelly Wallace, Coneale Wallace Bethurum, Margaret Vaile Wallace Brock, all of Nashville, Grace Elizabeth Wallace, of Louisville, KY; and numerous great grandchildren.
Visitation is 1:30 pm, Thursday, July 19, followed by a memorial service at 3 pm, St. George's, 4715 Harding Pike, Nashville, TN 37205.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. George's or the Nashville Humane Association, 213 Oceola Ave, Nashville, TN 37209.
