Lila Kendrick Newton of Nashville, Tennessee

April 10, 1925 - December 26, 2020

On Saturday, December 26, 2020, Lila Kendrick Newton of Nashville was welcomed into her eternal home at the age of 95.

Lila was born on April 10, 1925 in Anderson, S.C

She leaves behind her son, Neil Gregory Newton (Cindy); 5 grandchildren Helen Kendrick Riley (Allen), Robert Kendrick Newton Jr. (Lane) and Neil Parker Newton (Stephanie) and her 2 step grandchildren John Goodwin, and Laura Frances Zuhl (Ethan), who will forever remember her as Honey. …(You can take out step if needed.. all good here)

She was predeceased by her son, Robert Kendrick (Bob) Newton; and her parents, Una Lee McCarter Kendrick and Rev. Robert Clinton Kendrick.

She graduated from Central Wesleyan College in Central, S.C. (now known as Southern Wesleyan University) followed by a degree from Erskine College in 1946.

Lila taught for 30 years, in the public schools of Central, S.C. and Cumberland County, N.C.

In 2001 she moved to Park Manor Assisted Living where she helped maintain the library since 2005, often handling incoming donations and classifying the books on the shelves.

Lila was recognized for her longstanding volunteer service at The Crisis Center, Alive Hospice, and over 22 years at the Coumadin Clinic of St. Thomas Hospital West. She enjoyed worshiping the Lord, spending time with loved ones, crocheting, playing hours of cards, and watching NASCAR. As an avid reader and librarian, Lila volunteered as Park Manor Assisted Living Facility’s librarian from 2005 to her passing.

She will be dearly missed by her family and all of those who had the opportunity to know her.
