Lawrence Edward Wilson, Jr. of Franklin, Tennessee

May 15, 1944 - August 30, 2020

Lawrence Edward (“Ed”) Wilson passed peacefully at home on Sunday morning August 30,
2020 surrounded by his loving wife, Mary Lou Garrett Wilson, his beloved daughter, Susan
Wilson Alden, son-in-law James Alden, two grandsons Garrett and Rylee, as well as his faithful
dog Emma.

Ed was born in Clarksville, Tennessee on May 15, 1944. He received his B.S. in Civil
Engineering in 1966 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant from Tennessee Technological
University. After serving as an officer in the Army Corps of Engineers, he joined Geologic
Associates in Franklin. He later became President and CEO of the firm and evolved it into
Engineering Design and Geosciences Group (the EDGe Group).

Well known for setting the bar high for professional standards and work ethic, he served in
leadership positions in two esteemed organizations including the American Society of Civil
Engineers (ASCE) and Geoprofessional Business Associates (GBA), formerly Associated Soil
and Foundation Engineers (ASFE). Ed was passionate about finding the best people with
whom to work and mentoring them. He was especially proud of the fact that many of his
colleagues went on to form successful businesses and do great things in service to others. Ed
was a guest lecturer at Tennessee Tech, Vanderbilt, and University of South Carolina where he
enjoyed sharing his wisdom with young engineering students.

Ed had a lifelong love for the Great Outdoors and was a conscious and highly skilled hunter
and fisherman. One of his latest achievements was qualifying for a Montana State hunting and
fishing guide license. He loved teaching his family and people from around the world how to fly
fish and hunt. His greatest joy was fly fishing a mountain stream with his grandsons which he
did for much of the month of June 2020.

Ed and his wife Mary Lou were married for 54 years and members of the First Presbyterian
Church in Franklin. Together they chaired the Steering Committee to relocate and build the
current facility. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First Presbyterian at 101 Legends
Lane in Franklin, TN. 37069.

Celebration of Life services will be held in the coming months.
