John Slaughter passed peacefully away on September 25 th 2020. He was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on December 14 th , 1944 to H. E. and Dorothy Slaughter. Growing up in a military family, his fondest memories were the three years spent as a child in Bermuda.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years Sharyn, son Jake and wife Jaclyn, big brother Mickey Slaughter, sister, Cindy Lewis, grandchildren, Tony Slaughter and Anjel Ciccarelli, as well as great grandchildren Henry and Max.
John was preceded in death by his parents as well as son, Johnny, daughter Anne, and his younger brother Steve.
John served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force, serving in Vietnam. He then began his career in insurance, ending with 40 years with State Farm as a company leader. In management he often said, “You can beat a team, but no one beats a family!” His agents were his family.
He was known for his huge smile, infectious laughter, and loving bear hugs. He never met a stranger!
He and Sharyn attended Christ United Methodist Church for over 30 years, and taught Kindergartners. They were blessed by the love of many children, their own and others.
The family knows he is safely in Heaven with his son and daughter and a multitude of family and friends.
There will be a service to celebrate his life when it is safe to do so. Donations can be made in John’s memory to Christ United Methodist Church, 508 Franklin Rd., Franklin, Tn 37069.
