John (Jack) Earl Schirmer, aka The Hawk, passed away on June 3, 2020 at the age of 88 in Franklin, TN. Jack was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 11, 1932 and was the only child of Madeline (Bammerlin) and John Schirmer.
Jack graduated from Fairview Park High School in Ohio. He was drafted into the United Sates Army and served during the Korean War. Upon his return to the states, he was employed with the East Ohio Gas Company where he met his beautiful wife Suzanne and was married for 64 years. Jack then went to work as an officer for the PA Railroad Company and continued in the police force with the City of Fairview Park in Ohio for 27 years and retired as a Detective Lieutenant. The day after retirement, he became the Safety/Service Director for the city for 8 more years.
Jack made friends everywhere he went. He was known for his quick wit and one liners, his love for baseball, and always having his ooga horn on each of his cars. He was extremely loving and proud of his family. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne, his son Mark (Kathy) Schirmer, daughter Lynn (Dale) Woods and 3 grandchildren, Lauren Schirmer, Hayden (Reagin Edwards), and Morgan Woods. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association. Jack’s final resting place will be at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, with a celebration of life to be held later this year.
