John Allen Gaddy of Brentwood, Tennessee

August 30, 1935 - January 1, 2020

John Allen Gaddy passed away peacefully on the morning of January 1, 2020 at his home in
Brentwood, Tennessee. He was 84 years old.


Born in Isola, Mississippi, on August 30, 1935 to Roy and Alice (Varnel) Gaddy, John graduated
from Sunflower Consolidated High School in Coahoma County, Mississippi, in 1953.


John worked for the FBI as a fingerprint technician and served four years in the U.S. Air Force
before earning a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1971. While a young father of three, he
launched a successful career with the IRS. He went on to open his own accounting firm, Gaddy
& Associates, in 1975.


John was highly regarded for his elite expertise in tax preparation and his natural affinity for
turning every client into a friend. A born entertainer, he loved performing magic, telling jokes,
and hosting family and friends on his houseboat. In his later years, John learned and exceled at
the art of whittling.


John is preceded in death by his infant son, Jay Allen Gaddy; his mother and father; sisters Ione
Jackson and Lynn Taylor; and brothers Homer, Lemon, and Ralph Gaddy.


Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Kaye Gaddy; children Terri Gaddy Taylor, Teddy Gaddy
(Kathy), and Dena Marie Gaddy; stepchildren Jennifer Maier (Bruce) and Chris Mabry (Susan);
grandchildren Hal Chennault, Jeanne Vest, Allison and Lauren Plude, John Taylor, Katie Maier,
and Gracie and Will Mabry; five great-grandchildren; siblings Earl and Herbert Gaddy, Loyce
Marshall, and Joyce Carpenter, as well as a host of beloved extended family members.


A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 11 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal
Church, 510 W. Main Street, Franklin, Tennessee. The family will receive visitors from
1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.


Friends and family are also invited to a celebration of John’s life on Saturday, January 18 at
1:00 p.m. at Lake Providence Missionary Baptist Church, 5891 Nolensville Pike, Nashville,
Tennessee.


In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in John’s honor to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church or
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
