John Watson Algee passed away peacefully at home in Brentwood, Tennessee with his family on November 19. John was diagnosed with ALS in October 2022.

John was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on July 16, 1950, the youngest son of Lucian and Frances Algee. He was raised in Gadsden, Alabama then Nashville. He graduated from Hillwood High School in 1968 and attended Belmont University. In 1981 he married the love of his life, Amy Algee, and their daughter Lauren was born in 1985.

John was a beloved and devoted partner, father, grandfather, uncle, musician, gardener, and antiquarian. He always loved music, playing the drums, piano, guitar and harmonica and eventually becoming a songwriter. He worked in the Nashville film industry for 30 years. He was an Assistant Camera Operator on commercials, music videos, and movies, then moved into equipment sales and services, working at Armanda Costanza Inc. and Trew Audio. After retiring in 2012 he became a docent at the Hermitage and spent most of his free time collecting and restoring antique cameras and daguerreotypes.

John is survived by his wife, Amy; daughter Lauren Algee, son-in-law, Josh Miller, and grandson Everett Algee; sister Anita Watson; brother Bob Algee and sister-in-law, Sylvia Algee; and beloved nephew, nieces, grandnephews, and grandnieces.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 1 at 1 p.m. at Harpeth Presbyterian Church (3077 Hillsboro Road, Brentwood). Reception to follow.

In lieu of food or flowers, donations can be made to the ALS Association or the Everytown Support Fund .
