Jane Hellstrom of Madison, Tennessee

March 11, 1939 - August 29, 2021

Though born in Painesville Ohio, “Janie” Hellstrom grew up in Ft. Pierce, Florida and called it her home.
She graduated as Valedictorian of the Class of 1957 from Dan McCarty High School. She was a beloved
daughter of Miles and Margaret Davidson. She attended Florida State University and graduated with an English degree.

She is survived by her sister, Kay Davidson Delage; her two sons, Dr. Michael Douglas Hellstrom (Regina) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Mark Davidson Hellstrom of Madison, Tennessee; and four deeply loved grandchildren who were her pride and joy; Justin, Erich, Dylan, and Searlait.

Janie had a full and diverse professional career as a teacher, literary journalist, and hospital community
relations manager. Many of her endeavors found their focus within her Episcopal faith, specifically
within St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Fort Pierce, Florida.

In her youth, Janie could be frequently found with her father at DodgerTown in Vero Beach, Florida every year for Spring training, as she shared her Dad’s love of baseball. Despite her Yankee beginnings, she was otherwise a true Southern girl and loved to boast of having read “Gone With the Wind” seven times!

Much of her adult life was spent in Fort Pierce, Florida where she was surrounded by lifelong friends and service that she provided to so many. She relocated to Anderson, South Carolina to be closer to her grandchildren, and built a community of new and dear friends, attending Grace Episcopal Church where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school.

At the ripe young age of 78, she relocated once again to Grand Junction, Colorado to be available to her precious granddaughter Searlait. Once again, she created a community for herself that centered around her family, leading a brownie scout troop, acting as school librarian, and became a homeroom volunteer. She rose to every challenge and opportunity when it came to her children and grandchildren. Her devotion to them was evident in everything she did.

The last of her travels resulted in her moving with her son and granddaughter to Nashville, TN, where in
2019 she joined a rich community of friends at Maybelle Carter Living. This is where she met the love of
her life, Hal Kearns, who brought her the gift of love, companionship and joy in her remaining two years.

Janie’s wishes were to be cremated and have her ashes spread in Dillard, Georgia where her family spent many summers on vacation. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking those who would like to memorialize Janie to consider a donation to a college fund for her granddaughter, Searlait. A GoFundMe has been established by her family, which will be converted to a trust fund for Searlait.
