James (Jim) Mefford was a loving and faithful husband, a loving and attentive father, and also a loving son and brother.
During his life, Jim showed himself to be a well rounded and talented individual. In high school he earned All State honors for both football and choir, showing his talent in the arts and in athletics. Throughout his life he continued to demonstrate aptitude for whatever he put his mind to, be it doing 50 mile bike rides, remodeling his family's home, or pursuing multiple college degrees. He was always consistently involved in some form of church ministry and loved serving the Lord and His church from a young age.
Jim attended Western Kentucky University from 1977-1981 and received a double major; a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science and Math. Later in life he and his parents often brought Jim's children to the campus to spend time at the student center and to enjoy basketball games. Hilltopper themed clothes and toys were present in their home at all times! His middle daughter, Ashley, attended WKU as a pre-medical student, becoming the fourth generation of Meffords to attend WKU.
Jim would go on to receive his M.Div from Southwestern Theological Seminary as well. He used both of these degrees at various times throughout his career, showing the mind he had for numbers and math, as well as the heart he had for serving the Lord with his life. He was always serving a local church in a lay capacity even as he worked at different software companies, and also spent four years serving as a full time pastor at Bay Marin Community Church in Marin County, CA.
Jim is survived by his wife (Roberta), his three children (Jeremy, Audrey, Ashley), his two brothers (Jeffrey and Douglas), and his mother (Mae).
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to receive donations to a scholarship that was created to honor the memory of this man by assisting other young men and women in need to be able to grow their skills in the fields of math and computer science that Jim excelled in.
