Grace Augusta (Plinski) Holte passed away four days after her 89 th birthday on August 20, 2022, at her memory care home in Brentwood, TN. Born on August 16, 1933, to Frances and Joseph Plinski, of Winona, MN, she was the 10 th of 11 children. She had beautiful red hair and a fun loving spirit.
Grace spent her childhood and adolescence in Winona. Although times were tough, due to the Great Depression, the siblings were close-knit and frequently shared humorous stories of their time growing up together.
In 1950, Grace married Peter Fort and had four children. She was an outstanding mother and tenderly cared for her rambunctious crew. She loved to cook and bake, made delicious homemade bread, and was a terrific seamstress. In addition to clothes for her children, Grace made beautiful outfits for her daughter’s Barbie dolls. She kept an immaculate home.
In 1969, Grace married Wayne Holte and moved to California. She deeply loved Wayne. They had a wonderful life together and established great friendships both in CA and Arizona, before Wayne’s passing in 2013. Later, in 2018, Grace moved to Tennessee to live with one of her children.
Grace had a servant’s heart and demonstrated this throughout her life. She served others professionally through years of waitressing and personally was always helping others with big and small tasks. She prepared chicken dinners every Wednesday night at her church for many years and made tiny little rolls in doll dishes so that her children, and later her grandchildren, could have precious tea party memories. Grace was always ready to lend a hug, warm meal and smile to anyone. She will always be remembered for her beautiful tole painting and for the many hours she spent with family members, of all ages, laughing and joking while working on puzzles.
Grace had a deep faith and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Her life reflected that devotion. She will be greatly missed but is enjoying her heavenly reward for a job well done, a faithful servant.
Grace was preceded in death by; her parents, 10 siblings, her husband, Wayne Holte, and daughter-in-law, Karen Fort.
She is survived by her children; Gregory Fort of St. Charles, MN, Kathleen Farnsworth (Bill) of Buena Park, CA, Gail Eglitis (Dainis) of Westlake, CA, and Cynthia Lompart (Ron) of Brentwood, TN; her stepson, Todd Holte (Jill) of Redwood Falls, MN; 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Services will be held on October 7, 2022, at 2 pm, at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Memorial Park, 5600 Lindero Canyon Rd., Westlake Village, CA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Grace’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association (act.alz.org).
