Ginger Hugh Waddle

May 31, 1935 - November 25, 2017

Ginger Hugh Waddle died unexpectedly at Vanderbilt University Medical Center on November 25, 2017, in Nashville, TN at the age of 82.
Hugh is survived by his partner, Allen Currey and numerous friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother and two sisters, of Ottumwa, Iowa. He was also preceded in death from his beloved cat, Angel.
Hugh was born on May 25, 1935, in Ottumwa, Iowa to Irene and Harvey Waddle. His parents and family soon moved to Loveland, Colorado where among other things Hugh became an avid skier. After high school, Hugh attended Colorado State University pursuing a degree in History. Before completing college, Hugh decided to serve his country by joining the United States Army on September 19,1956, as a Message Center operator. Hugh was honorably discharged as a decorated veteran in 1959 and was honored with the National Defense Medal of Honor of Occupation Medal in Germany, Sharpshooter Rifle Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
After serving in the military Hugh returned to Loveland for another 13 years before moving to Gordonsville, TN in Smith County. After moving to Gordonsville in 1972, he began working for Welch, a manufacturer of children furniture, as a forklift operator. Later he acquired an 85 acre cattle farm where he became a farmer. He continued to reside in Gordonville for another 10 years until the big city called him, so he moved to Nashville, TN, home of the Grand Ole Opry. While in Nashville, he enjoyed a career with the Motel 6 Corporation until retirement. Official retirement though didn't set well with Hugh.
Hugh along with his partner Allen opened various antique booths and a home décor shop called the "Village Peddler." He was known for selling just about anything and often spent long days and nights selling jewelry, cleaning supplies and restocking the antique booth at the BlackLion. His real passion though was people.
Hugh loved to tell stories and his wit was second to none. He was always willing to help others when in need. He often picked up people at the airport, mowed someone's lawn while they were on vacation and was accomplished at almost any task put in front of him. He loved to work endless hours in his home garden which he would gladly give you a tour. Hugh loved God and his church.
Hugh was an active and dedicated member of the Holy Trinity Community Church and often volunteered at Room at the Inn winter program to shelter the homeless. He loved his church small group and the sharing about God's word. He was a wonderful cook who was known for his famous potato salad that was always served in the orange cast iron pot. No church potluck or party could ever happen without this amazing dish. This recipe was secret and not even the most accomplished cooks could figure this out. He loved his partner, his friends and most of all his beloved cat "Angel Cat". Hugh was loved by many and will be missed--God added another Angel in heaven with Hugh.
Visitation will be Tuesday November 28, 2017, from 6-9:00 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Community Church. The funeral is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at Holy Trinity Community church with internment to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens located in Murfreesboro, TN. Reverend Doctor Bryce Thomas will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Hugh's life. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors of the Veterans Administration hospital and the trauma unit of Vanderbilt University Medical Center for their wonderful care during his last days.
