George Victor Durnin of Franklin, Tennessee

January 14, 1945 - March 28, 2020

It is with an overwhelming sense of loss that we announce the peaceful passing of George Victor
Durnin on March 28, 2020 after a battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was 75.

George was born on January 14, 1945, in Huron County, Ontario, to John and Violet Durnin, one
of four children. His upbringing on a farm in rural Canada defined George's strong family values
and tireless work ethic, and instilled in him a deep appreciation of nature, animals, and
homemade pie.

After leaving home at age 17, George moved to London, Ontario, where he became involved in
the car rental industry. In 1975, he moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, to oversee US operations of
Holiday Rent A Car. He moved to Nashville in 1980 to open his own car rental company,
Tennessee Car & Van Rental, which he owned and operated for 35 years.

George is preceded in death by his parents, John and Violet, and his brothers, Donald (Betty-Lou) and Wayne (Linda).

George is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Sandy, his three children, Aaron, Becca
Crawford (Shawn), and Rachael, his sister Betty Young (Barry), and his three grandchildren,
Caleb, Chloe, and Arlo.

George knew not to take life too seriously. He easily charmed those who met him and made new
friends wherever he went. George had a keen sense of humor and a knack for storytelling, and he
always kept his loved ones laughing. He was big-hearted and consistently put others before
himself. A man of simple pleasures, George was a loyal Titans fan and lover of classic country
music, and was happiest when he was outside, riding his beloved red tractor or tending to the
family horse farm.

George's family thanks the generous staff at Abe's Garden for their love and support, and asks
that donations be made in memory of George to Abe's Garden or Alive Hospice. A celebration of
his life will be held at a future date.
