GEOFFREY SUMNER HICKS, 82, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2021 at his home in Nashville, Tennessee. Geoff was born on June 4, 1939 in Jackson, Mississippi to Ralph Wesley Hicks and Marie Louise Hicks, the second youngest of six children - Evelyn, Allen, Carol, Ralph, Geoff and Audrea. He graduated from Hattiesburg High School in Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 1957, then volunteered in the United States Army in a “buddy platoon” with fellow high school classmates and was honorably discharged with the rank of Private First Class in 1958. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1961 and a master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Alabama in 1963. Like his father and brother Ralph, Geoff was a proud lifelong member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. His 50-year career in information systems and project management spanned the aerospace, defense, aviation and health care industries, while simultaneously supporting his wife Pat in her wholesale baking business, hauling flour bags, defrosting freezers, delivering cakes to customers and doing whatever needed to get done. He and Pat were founding members of the Church of the Redeemer in Nashville. Geoff is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Patsy Jean Pierce of Houston, Texas; their son Geoffrey Allen Hicks of McLean, Virginia and his wife Kara; their daughter Laura Hicks Wells and her husband Ryan of Nashville, Tennessee; five grandsons Weston Hicks, Garrett Hicks, Mason Wells, Henry Wells and Charlie Wells; and one granddaughter Hadley Hicks. Geoff also is survived by his younger sister Audrea Hicks of Mandeville, Louisiana. He loved reading, history, antique cars and every minute he could spend with his grandchildren. His quick wit, broad smile, ready laugh, compassionate heart and generous spirit will be missed by all of his family and friends.
The family will receive friends at a visitation on Friday, February 25th from 4:00-6:00 PM at the Church of the Redeemer, 920 Caldwell Lane in Nashville, Tennessee. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 26th at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Redeemer, with a reception to follow.
