Douglas Allen Renegar, 61, of Franklin, TN made his greatest hole in one into the arms of Jesus on April 14, 2021 after complications from a stroke.
Doug was born in Morocco, Africa at Nouasseur Air Base on June 26, 1959 to his parents, Clarence and Eloise (Campbell) Renegar. As a USAF family that moved often, his dad retired in Orlando, FL where Doug went to high school and college. Doug received his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Central Florida. He met Laurel (Pryor) Renegar during his time at UCF. On June 19, 1982, Doug and Laurel married in Snellville, GA. They have two daughters, Linsey (Josh) Wagner and Casey (Michael) Draiss.
While Doug’s career started in restaurants, his passion was always people. He was an inspiring leader, encouraging mentor and people connector. Doug had the gift of recognition and was able to celebrate other’s strengths. Throughout Doug’s career with KFC, Doug and Laurel lived in Florida, North Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas and Tennessee where they grew long-lasting relationships at each location.
In August 2002, they moved to Franklin, TN to join their lifelong friends, Michael and Tamara Lister on a new restaurant venture with Famous Dave’s Barbeque. After almost 20 years in the business, the four of them remain great business partners and friends and still own four Famous Dave’s locations.
Doug thoroughly enjoyed golf, traveling (to play golf), socializing (on the golf course), motorcycle trips all over the country, and daily trips to Home Depot. Doug made friends easily and was known for his joyful attitude, contagious smile, funny jokes (sometimes) and always had a story to tell. But the most fun Doug ever had was being GPa to his grandchildren. He loved GMo, beautiful Ellie and the Rooster.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of almost 39 years, Laurel Pryor Renegar, his two daughters, Linsey Wagner (Josh) of Murfreesboro, TN and Casey Draiss (Michael) of Thompson’s Station, TN; grandchildren, Graham and Eloise Wagner and Ryder Draiss; siblings Rama Renegar, Delilah Renegar, and Charlotte Williams, brother-in-law, Dayne Pryor (Anne) and many cherished nieces, nephews, and Godsons.
Plans for a Celebration of Life are in the works and details will be shared as they become available.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the College Golf Fellowship Doug Renegar Memorial Fund. https://www.collegegolffellowship.com/douglas-renegar
