Don Leslie Porter passed away at his home in Waverly, Tennessee on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at the age of 69. He was born on January 14, 1946 in Humboldt, Tennessee to Wayne and Gladys Porter. He graduated from Alamo High School in 1964 and served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1969. While in the Army, Don was stationed in Germany and Okinawa. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1973. The majority of his engineering career was spent working for the Tennessee Valley Authority. After retiring from TVA, Don worked as an engineering consultant for M&K Engineering in Nashville, and also for the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Throughout his life, he was an avid fisherman and hunter and his interests included history, cooking, and traveling. Don is survived by his son, Jason Patrick Porter; daughter, Lesley (Van) Porter Baggett; grandchildren, Joseph Porter Baggett, Avie Lee Porter, and Jacob Cooper Baggett; mother, Gladys Reasons Porter; and sister, Janet Porter Lockard. Don is preceded in death by his father, Wayne Hill Porter, and his brother, James Winfield Porter. Graveside services were held on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Cox's Chapel Cemetery in Coxville, Tennessee.
