Charles David Bean, Sr. of Nashville, Tennessee

March 2, 1938 - February 20, 2021

Charles “David” Bean was born on March 2, 1938 in Dorsey, Mississippi and born to heaven on February 20, 2021 in Nashville, Tennessee.  He was pre-deceased by parents L.E. and Mary Sue Bean, and beloved wife of 58 years, Sue “Mamoose”.  Lovingly called Papa by his grandkids and known also as Charles, David, Day-Dee, Butterbean, CD, Uncle David, Dave and Daddy.

He graduated from Itawamba High School where he played football, basketball and baseball and was voted Most Athletic.  During that time he was also selected to be an intern as a Page in the Capital/White House in Washington DC and worked alongside VP Richard Nixon.  He attended Itawamba Junior College and graduated from Mississippi State University in 1960, with a degree in finance and was a lifelong Bulldog fan.  He was a brilliant numbers guy, and was selected as one of the few from Planters Bank to attend training in Chicago for the new “computer” industry based on his math scores.  He then scored a coveted job at AVCO/Textron in their budding information systems department, leading to a job as the Payroll Director.  He enjoyed a long career with AVCO before retiring.

He was a lifelong blood donor-gifting life to hundreds of people by his approximate 10 gallon donation.  He was a 54 year member of Crievewood United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Fellowship Forum Sunday School class, the Men’s club, a youth basketball coach and a founder of the successful Crievewood Run 5k which funded youth programs at Crievewood, which each one of his 7 grandkids would benefit from.   He organized 23 Crievewood Runs that raised upwards of $65,000 for the church’s youth programs.

David was an avid outdoorsman and loved spending time on the lake fishing, boating, and teaching and pulling his kids and grandkids on water skis. David gave his family deep roots, lifelong friends, taught his children and grandchildren to be dependable, to value family, community, commitment, hard work, faith and grace, nightly dinner with the family, humor (he lovingly gave out nicknames-including his grandkids and sisters) and so much more.

WELL DONE.

David leaves behind children-

Carla (Jim) Arnette, Chuck (Betsy) Bean, Jamie (John) Dooley, grandchildren, Allie (Forbes) Smallwood (AKA LuLu), Jayce Arnette (AKA JC), Patrick (Mackenzie Johnson) Dooley (AKA JP3), Mary Hannah (Zack Bennett) Dooley (AKA MH), Job Dooley (AKA DJ), Ivie Dooley (AKA Ivaleen) and Addie Bean (AKA Adagirl). Sisters Marolyn Gray (AKA May-May), Carolyn Stegall (AKA Ca-Ca) & Emily Kelso (AKA Emily Ann Jenrostavist Jarbonis Jestiner Elvira Sycamore Bean) and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank the Alive Hospice team for their wonderful care of David for almost 2 years, with a special thank you to Tana, Ann, Roy and Aaron.  Additionally, special heart-felt thank you’s to David’s home health caregivers who provided round the clock care with devotion and compassion-Doris, Lexie, Joyce, Marcia, Mollie, Taiwana and Tammie.
