Bradley (Brad) Charles Starrett of Knoxville, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2024 in Nashville. He was 57. Brad was born in East Cleveland, Ohio, on October 9, 1966, to parents Joan Claudette (nee Maurer) and Charles Douglas Starrett. The family moved to Virginia when Brad was a teenager, and he graduated from Tabb High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana, and undertook graduate studies at the University of Cincinnati and The Ohio State University. He was an avid baseball and football player during high school and college and loved to share those stories.
Brad is survived by his wife, Johanna Proffitt Starrett, and two amazing children, Mallari Starrett (Joseph Nuttall) and Adam Starrett. He was proud to have become a grandfather to Aurelia Starrett-Nuttall recently. His family was by his side through his many years of medical journeys, but they always found time for adventures, good food, and cheering on their favorite football teams.
Brad’s passions were open wheel racing, teaching and coaching. The family lived in several states, and he was fortunate to teach high school science and math at each location. He often would be drawn to teaching alternative education students, and coached multiple sports throughout his career. Brad had a huge personality and vocabulary, and loved to laugh and share stories.
Brad is also survived by his loving mother, Claudette, his sisters Denise Starrett and Carrie (Brian) Mokry, and nephews, Parker and Travis Mokry, in-laws Jennifer (Reggie) Drum, and nieces Emma, Abbie, and nephew Rylan Drum as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was proceeded in death by his father, Doug, and nephew Reston Drum[1] .
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at Fox Run Clubhouse, 12804 Norden Drive, Knoxville TN 37934 from noon until 4 p.m.. Please honor his memory by wearing something green or sports-related. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Epilepsy Foundation of East Tennessee in memory of Brad.
