Ann Stephenson Moodie

April 11, 1942 - February 24, 2024

Ann Stephenson Moodie, Age 81, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on February 24, 2024, holding the hand of her husband and soulmate, Harry Watts Moodie. Ann was born in Cookeville, Tennessee on April 11, 1942, to Robert Wayne Stephenson Sr. and Julia McClain Stephenson as the oldest of seven children.

Ann moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1958 where she graduated from Cumberland High School in 1960. She worked for Methodist Publishing House before becoming a medical transcriber at Baptist Hospital.

Ann met Harry, in 1964, while in curlers and sporting the biggest smile. Harry was smitten from the start. They were married on June 7, 1969, at the Downtown Presbyterian Church in Nashville and were happily married for over 54 years.  She was a dedicated and loving wife who managed every aspect of her home and her families’ activities, while sporting a smile and making it seem so easy. She adored her husband and would have done anything for him. Even in her last days, she knew “her man” and brightened upon seeing his face.

Ann was a well known and loved volunteer in the Middle Tennessee area for numerous charities including Alzheimer’s Association, March of Dimes, Santa’s Helpers, American Cancer Society and most notably the American Heart Association where she chaired and helped organize numerous Heart Gala events raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for the treatment, prevention, and cure of heart disease. Many would recognize her beautiful penmanship as she would undoubtedly be involved in hand addressing thousands of invitations each year.

Loved by all who knew her for her kind heart, beautiful smile, and infectious laugh, she enjoyed every opportunity to host an event in her home or gather with friends. Ann loved to cook, and many will remember a fabulous meal around her table.

Ann and Harry raised two daughters, Julie and Kate, who over the years have continued to know what an amazing inspiration their mother was and what she instilled in them about family and love including how to work hard, be humble, appreciate all you are given, and how to navigate life and the ups and downs that come your way. Above all, she taught them to drive the car and keep your husband in the passenger seat.

Ann loved traveling with family and friends creating life-long memories.  It was New York City at Christmastime, cruises on the Seabourne and multiple girl’s trips with her sister and daughters to the Napa Valley (to sample her favorite chardonnay) for which she loved most.

Though she was the best wife and mother, fabulous at raising money for various charities, a lover of travel and food, her favorite role was that of a grandparent.  Known as “Nana” to her four wonderful grandchildren, she was always seen cheering from the sidelines at every sporting event, dance recital, or on-stage production. She loved sharing holidays, giving group hugs after family dinners, serving her fabulous cheese grits, and winning at nearly every round of Left-Right-Center.

These past few years, the family has been blessed to have numerous caregivers care lovingly for Ann. Their love and support have meant the world to the family.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Wayne Stephenson Sr. and Julia McClain Stephenson, and her brothers Billy Don Stephenson and Bobby Wayne Stephenson. She is survived by her husband, Harry Watts Moodie, her daughters, Julie (Keith) Covington and Kate (Tom) Sullivan, her grandchildren Haley, Elsie, Savannah and Huck, her brothers Jimmy Stephenson and David Stephenson, and her sisters Marcia Grissom and Judy Jeub.

Due to her extensive support of charity organizations in the Middle Tennessee area, donations to charity would be greatly appreciated.

A celebration of life is being planned for April 21, 2024.
